Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-06-02.
This Privacy Policy describes how WUD ("we," "us," or "the service") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the WUD mobile application and related services. By using WUD, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly, information generated as you use the service, and limited information from your device.
- Account information. Name, handle, email address, password (stored as a salted hash — never in plain text), profile photo, optional bio, optional phone number, and optional age.
- Authentication identifiers. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your account identifier and email from the provider. We do not receive your password.
- Content you create. Plans you host or join, chat messages, polls, reactions, floats, pings, and any photos or text you attach to those.
- Contacts (optional). If you grant permission, we check your device contacts against accounts already on WUD so we can suggest friends. Contact data is processed on-device and only the identifiers of matches are returned to the server; we do not upload or store your full address book.
- Device + technical information. Push notification token, device type, operating system version, app version, and IP address (recorded transiently in server logs for abuse prevention).
- Usage information. When you take actions in the app — for example, joining a plan or sending a chat — we record timestamps and the affected records so the service can function.
WUD does not collect precise device location, ad identifiers, or browsing history outside the app.
2. How we use information
- To operate the WUD service — show your friends what you're doing, deliver chat messages, send push notifications about activity in your network.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To suggest friends already on WUD based on your contacts (only if you grant contact permission).
- To investigate, prevent, and respond to abuse, security incidents, and violations of the Terms of Service.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
3. How information is shared
- With other users. Profile information, plans, chat messages, reactions, and pings are visible to other users according to the visibility you choose (friends only, friends-of-friends, or recipients of a specific float / squad).
- With service providers. We use third-party infrastructure to operate WUD, including: Google Firebase Authentication for sign-in, Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) and Apple Push Notification service (APNs) for push delivery, and a hosting provider for the application backend. These providers process information on our behalf under their own privacy terms.
- For legal reasons. We may disclose information when required by law, valid legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
4. Retention
We retain account information for as long as your account is active. Notifications are automatically purged after seven days. Past plans and chats remain visible to participants until you delete them or your account.
You can delete your account from inside the app (Settings → Delete account). Deletion removes your profile, plans you hosted, chat messages you sent, and your authentication identifiers. Some records may persist in backups for a limited period before being overwritten.
5. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict processing of your personal information. The easiest way to exercise these rights is to use the in-app controls: edit your profile, edit or delete content you've posted, and delete your account.
6. Children
WUD is intended for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, please contact us so we can delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard practices including TLS in transit and hashed credentials at rest. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International data
WUD operates servers in regions chosen by our hosting provider. By using WUD, you understand that your information may be processed in a jurisdiction different from your country of residence.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective" date at the top of this page, and may be communicated in-app for significant changes.
